# Connect your AI to an app

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or another AI assistant to a Noloco app you use. It only sees and changes what you can.

Every Noloco app has its own MCP server. Connect your AI assistant to it to ask questions about the app's data or update records in natural language. The assistant acts as you, so it only sees and changes what you can in the app.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you don't see **Connect AI Assistant (MCP)** in your profile menu, your role doesn't allow it. Ask your app admin to turn on [Agent access](/users-and-permissions/user-roles-and-permissions.md#agent-access) for your role.
{% endhint %}

## Connect your assistant

### 1. Open the menu

In the app, open your profile menu and click **Connect AI Assistant (MCP)**.

### 2. Add the app to your assistant

Pick your assistant and click **Connect**.

Follow the steps shown. For Claude, **Add \<app name> to Claude** fills everything in for you. For any other assistant, add a custom connector with the server URL shown:

```
https://api.core.noloco.io/mcp/apps/<app-name>
```

<figure><img src="https://319575345-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MifpIQWu0HCVYAt51oT%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-51ad9bdd84477b647266e1f6df84629f3c90e7a5%2Fapp-mcp-connect-claude.png?alt=media" alt="Steps to connect Claude" width="400"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### 3. Allow access

Sign in to the app when your assistant asks you to. Choose **Read** or **Read and write**, then click **Allow access**. **Read and write** only appears if your role allows writing.

<figure><img src="https://319575345-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MifpIQWu0HCVYAt51oT%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-f6102fedabbdda6aed952854a92a799a0110c416%2Fapp-mcp-consent.png?alt=media" alt="Connect an AI agent consent page" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## What it can do

* **Read:** list tables, read schemas, and list or get records.
* **Read and write:** also create and update records.
* It can't delete records, and it only covers this one app.

## Disconnect

Open **Connect AI Assistant (MCP)** again and click **Disable** next to the assistant.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://guides.noloco.io/settings/mcp-integration/connect-your-ai-to-an-app.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
